ostrich impression

Since the whole country has gone insane and decided to move primary season up by weeks if not months I am being forced to think about these things much earlier than I had planned to. I have a highly developed ability to ignore things, it comes from being the lone introvert and lone girl in my family of noisy obnoxious brothers. I can read a book through an earthquake and only realize what happened if the electricity gets knocked out and I can’t see the page any more. This ability has been assisting me in my denial of the effing retailers arbitrary decision to move the beginning of the Christmas season to the middle of October, (myStarbucks cup was green and red? really? I didn’t notice) and up until now it has been helping me ignore the various campaigns taking place for the next presidential election. However, the primary isn’t that far off now and I have yet to even decide which party’s I’m going to participate in. I wish we weren’t two party system – I don’t feel that either accurately represents my beliefs and opinions, but 3rd parties almost never gain enough traction to make a difference, so I am forced to choose.

To help me in this decision I have done a minuscule amount of internet research. I wouldn’t be qualified for my advanced procrastination degree if I did more than that before it became absolutely necessary. According to this candiate calculator tool I am aligned the most with Bill Richardson the governor of New Mexico, but if I change the weights on even a few of the questions it switches to Dennis Kucinich – who I have not been impressed with when I heard him speak.

To be perfectly honest I don’t know that there is anyone who has the ability to lead this country out of the mess it has made for itself. I’m thinking that instead of voting and then feeling personally responsible when whichever jackass that gets elected screws up even more, I’ll abdicate my citizenship and move to Canada. Wait, I don’t think I can handle the winters – Crete maybe? Meanwhile I’ll get back to pretending I don’t have to pay attention. Elections and Christmas may appear when I am ready and not a moment before!
